The best day of the year to buy clothing

Dec. 26. Wait until Dec. 27 or Dec. 28, and the clothes will have been picked through.

Thursday evenings are the best time and day of the week to buy clothing. If clothes haven’t sold about six weeks after they arrive in stores, managers start lowering the prices. These sales often occur as part of weekend sales, which often start on Thursdays.

Winter coats - January or February

Sneakers - November and April.

Suits - January typically is a slow month for suit sales, so clothiers will lower prices to get you in their stores.

Swimsuits - sales tend to start in the summer, but by September, department stores badly want to get rid of swimsuits.

Jeans - October
